Dinosaur Literacy Activities for Preschool

I like to introduce theme words to my students every few weeks and we use these words for our Write the Room activity. In this activity, students will identify and say the name of the picture, and clap number of syllables in each picture.

The goal of Read and Write the Room is to reinforce print awareness. These cards can be used to help develop vocabulary and can be found in the Dinosaur Literacy Packet. Fall Races Available in the Fall Math Packet located in the printables section below, this activity will help build number sense and one to one correspondence.

Read and Write the Room {House}

This center was so unstructured that I knew it was time to do something about it! This past week Krash had his first experience. Instead of a blank paper with little to no direction, students are asked to complete various worksheets which I change every week.

I had wonderful guest bloggers in for me last week so if you missed their post, be sure to go back and read them. Letter identification is an important part of developing phonological awareness skills.

To play the game, students will take turns drawing a card, identifying the letter, and marking it on their recording sheet. The playing cards are available in black and white and color for your convenience.

The beginning sounds activity is available in the Dinosaur Literacy Packet. You can help your kids celebrate all the different types of dinosaurs by extending the learning into your literacy center activities.

I have a student choose a word and we come up with a sentence together. Tape these around the schoolroom or school area in your home. For fun, allow your child to use funny glasses, a fun word pointerand a special pen or pencil!

We got back the other day from a great week-long trip with the kids to Jamaica. Use this book to reinforce concepts of print such as words are separated by spaces, left to right and top to bottom, written words match spoken words, common sight words, and more.

Fall Counting Book This easy to assemble book helps reinforce number sense and counting. You could expand on this idea to hang up sight words and have your child hunt for them, use just letters or any theme. This activity is available in the Fall Literacy Packet located in the printables section below.
